La Chapelle is situated 20 minutes south west of Bayeux, in Normandy, France. It is an ideal location for all types of holidays.
Whether you wish to visit places of historical and architectural interest, soak up some sun on the wonderfully spacious sandy beaches, or simply have a peaceful break in a rural idyll, this area is an ideal holiday destination. A few highlights are detailed below - we hope these will whet your appetite!
The hilly Manche peninsula lies to the north west, stretching from Mont St. Michel to Cherbourg; to the east are the flat plains around the river Orne and the city of Caen ,the capital of Calvados with its mediæval château, street markets & shops and to the south east is the Suisse Normande, an area of spectacular tree clad hills, deep gorges and fast flowing rivers. Bayeux, famous for its Tapestry, is twenty minutes away. Just ten minutes further are the D-Day Landing Beaches, the picturesque fishing town of Port-en-Bessin and the sandy beaches of the Côte de Nacre. Honfleur and Mont St. Michel are a little further; Paris and the wine producing Loire valley longer day trips. Just ten minutes away from La Chapelle is the town of Balleroy with its Mansard château housing a balloon museum. Every other year a balloon festival is held here. Most sports and leisure activities are catered for and there are numerous châteaux and other places of historical interest within easy reach.
Our départment, Calvados, is well known for its fiery apple brandy of the same name. Seafood, apples, cider and cream form the basis of the region's cuisine; fresh food can be bought each day in the colourful street markets. Our local small town, Caumont l'Éventé (5km) has a full range of shops; fresh bread and basics are available in Cormolain (4km).
